Job Description

A forklift driver has the important task of safely moving things from one location to another in a secure method. Personal Qualities

The forklift operator must ideally be able to stand for an 8 hour shift. In most work environments, they would be allowed to have a half-hour lunch break and two short coffee breaks during the day. It is essential that the forklift driver not be prone to rage of any type or reckless driving.



Training

Often, forklift training is done on the job. This training includes control training and safety training, that is done through a series of videos, and tests. A performance test will also be conducted on the lift truck. After the tests have been done successfully, a license could be issued. This license needs to be renewed based on shop procedures and based on state and provincial laws. If you get the chance to complete your forklift training on the job, it is a great idea and it is one more skill you can include in your resume.
