History
During the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. During the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for worldwide cargo handling applications, agriculture and waste disposal.
