A stock picker, also called an order picker is a machine that is quite similar to a forklift. It allows the driver to utilize forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain objects, and this feature is something the forklift does not offer. Usually, order pickers are operated by electricity. These machinery are mainly used in a warehouse environment. Most often they are utilized for moving pallets and finishing certain tasks in the stocking and shelving department.
The operator of an order picker uses controls to control the unit from a platform setting which usually sits fairly close to the ground. The operator can direct the machinery to go backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades could be raised to the required level that makes it convenient for the operator. For example, if the required materials, are located on a shelf that the operator cannot reach, then entire platform is capable of being raised up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then directed or driven to its next location. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, although, several businesses might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers in the name of safety. An order picker is also able to put pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers can be utilized to finish these particular jobs at several companies instead.
