A kind of equipment in the material handling industry which can be used to lift and transport loads from one location to another is known as a forklift. Every component of a forklift has a specific function. Various components could be utilized to transport the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lift and lower the load. There are various types of masts used for raising loads to different heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is situated within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.
Cab
Located within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated within the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, that are located at the back so as to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
