For the use of lift trucks, there are some safety and health rules governing their utilization. Lift trucks are large industrial equipment that can be dangerous and need to be handled with safety in mind. The regulations and rules state that the driver has to perform daily inspections on the lift truck and more thorough inspections on a weekly basis and each and every month. The following inspections have to be carried out on the forklift:
Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on forklifts are important features which should be double and triple checked. A brake check is done with various pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - the tires are also essential to the safe functioning of the truck and to the braking system. All the tires should be inspected properly to ensure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the proper pressure.
Controller - the lift truck controller system is checked by operating the forks and the release to know that the system is in good working order. Any sign of issues must be reported and tended to instantly. The lift truck must not be utilized until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - In order to make sure that the turning of the wheel is correct, the driver must inspect the forklift steering wheel. Forklift safety depends upon the steering wheel responding well and working accurately. There are a variety of inspections which can be done to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine requires oil. The dipstick would show the level of the oil and the colour of the oil. The oil must be refilled if the level is very low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination occurring.
Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be equipped with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher has to be tested to ensure it will work properly in the event of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher need to be inspected in specific ways. Like for instance, a dry chemical extinguisher should be shaken.
