Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
A forklift is made of thousands of components. The major parts which make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the wheels and the tilt cylinders. Furthermore, a lift truck consists of different types of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are all essential as they work together to make the operation of the machine possible. The following paragraphs describe some of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machinery operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or injure the operator. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and various other attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is attached to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a variety of attachments may be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common attachment is forks. What's more, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These various attachments are handy for transporting different types of loads.
